  • Do you feel like it takes all your energy as a parent to get your kids to school or to the sitter’s on time each morning?
  • If you are ready to potty train your child, would you like proven guidance to help map out a plan for this important life skill?
  • Would your family benefit from new strategies to make homework time more peaceful and, more importantly, efficient?
  • Are mealtimes agonizing for your whole family, due to a narrow range of accepted foods or specific sensory preferences of your child?
  • Do you dread the hours after dinner, when bath and bedtime can be a source of stress, uprooting the order of your whole family?
  • Does your child have difficulty relaxing and “winding down” to go to bed at a reasonable time?
  • Are you the parent of a child with special needs who would benefit from fresh strategies to help during family time at home or in the community?

If you have ever wished that someone would consider the whole child, looking at your son or daughter’s coordination, sensory preferences, activity level, screen use, and patterns of behavior…

Empowering Life Skills can help you take new steps to benefit your whole family

You can access creative solutions from an experienced occupational therapist

No judgment, just much-needed help to bring you peace of mind.

Empowering Life Skills can provide you with support for your family’s routine from a registered, licensed occupational therapist with years of experience as an educator, mental health provider and parent. Practical, viable solutions can help you overcome the challenges that are dragging your family down.

The service of Empowering Life Skills is for your whole family. You can ask for guidance with one child, or all your kids. Your family functions as a unit, so one person’s difficulties affect all others. One person’s strengths can fortify all others as well.

Empowering Life Skills has 4 prongs. An OT comes directly to your home to offer you the following services:

  1. Assessment: Your first visit will be an information-gathering session. (Expect some pre-visit questionnaires to help explain your situation and which part of your family’s daily life skill is your biggest concern.) You know your child best, so you will have a voice in what has worked in the past, what you see as your child’s challenges, and where you would like the most focus of help. On the first visit, Angie will observe that routine in your home, as she assesses the child’s strengths, abilities, and difficulties.
  2. Creative Phase: Angie will then go back to her office to write up your customized plan, gathering research-based resources to help your family achieve life skills success.
  3. Consultation with delivery of resources: During our second in-home session, you and your child(ren) will be trained to use your new set of unique supports. Expect these to be relevant, based on current research, employ a variety of sensory systems and build on your child’s ability to self-monitor. Ask all the questions you can think of during this interactive session with your family. In the following weeks, you will put these practices to use to build a consistent routine using these new parenting strategies. You and your child(ren) will be asked to journal progress to help see results.
  4. Follow-up session and support: The last in-home session will allow us time as a team to review the new habits and routine and to make any necessary “field improvements” to give your family lasting results. This entire program is designed so that you as a parent can find new strength in consistency to help your family thrive with routine-based self-care habits.
